Hello. I have no idea if this is in existance but is there somewhere a DVR Or Tivo machine that is accessible to visually impaired people? I work a lot of second shifts and want to be able to record episodes of shows and watch them later. If this does not exist then would it benefit you? If it were to be made would anyone use it?
What the hell is a tivo?
Tivo is a device for making digital recordings of TV shows. It died on its arse in the UK but is insanely popular in the US. Our (UK) equivalent is Sky Plus, but I believe Tivo is independent of your TV service supplier.
Sorry, I don't know of any accessible DVRs.
I believe it's a way to record shows that you missed. Like you can program it to record shows ahead of time so you can come back and watch them later. A DVR is similar to that except that you use CD's or videos. And I think the Tivo is just a box without a removable storage device. Hope I explained it correctly, because I'm just guessing on that myself. *smiles*
To answer the original post, I don't know of a any recording device for TV that is directly accessable, but I think there is a universal remote, (sorry I don't remember the name at the moment, I think it's "Accenda" or something(), that speaks and also has the ability for setting voice commands. I've never used it though so don't know how good it works. But, yes, I would definitely use a Tivo (or better yet a DVR), if one were made that were accessible, if I could afford it of course. *smile* But yes, it would deffinitely be cool to be able to record and save sh9ows I liked independently.
IIRC, anyone may equip their computers with TV tuners. Both internal and external models are available—in the form of a PCI card and usb/firewire connectivity respectively. I've no idea about the accessibility of the software that drives such creations, though. Once a tuner has been properly configured, you will need software such as bru compact to record the streams. I know nothing about this process, either.
Sorry and HTH anyway.
Auh! DVR I do know that what that is. Oh yeah thanks.
